Culver's of Lake Zurich to host blood drive

In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, LifeSource will host the "Plant the Seed of Hope Blood Drive" from 12:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, at Culver's of Lake Zurich, 645 N. Rand Road.

All donors will receive a complimentary pint of Culver's frozen custard, as well as an awareness card that includes seed paper in the shape of a blood drop. Donors are encouraged to plant the seed paper in honor of children who are battling cancer and who receive life-supporting blood transfusions as part of their treatment.

According to the Children's Cancer Research Fund, every day 42 families in the United States receive the news that their child or teenager has cancer. Childhood Cancer Awareness Month serves as a reminder that adults aren't the only ones to brave the battle against cancer.

Appointments are suggested, but walk-ins are welcome. To make an appointment, call (877) 543-3768 or visit www.lifesource.org and search Group Code 264D.

In preparation for their donation, donors are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with proper identification. The donation appointment takes about an hour (the donation itself takes only around 10 minutes) and is both safe and comfortable. Donors must be at least 18 years old (16- and 17-year-olds can donate with parental consent).

Proper identification is required to donate blood. A LifeSource or military ID, driver's license or employee badge with a picture and full name are all approved forms of identification. A birth certificate, along with a picture ID that includes the donor's full name, will also be accepted.
