Gearing up for the eclipse at GreenFields of Geneva

On Monday, Aug. 21, residents from GreenFields of Geneva will celebrate what has become known as the Great American Total Solar Eclipse. Donning special eclipse glasses and using hand-created polar pin projector viewers, the residents will witness the phenomenon of the moon passing between the sun and earth, blocking the sun from viewers in the Chicago area.

The celebration will include the residents watching the live YouTube feed of Planetary Radio's Mat Kaplan along with Bill Nye "the Science Guy" broadcasting the event from Carbondale.

GreenFields' dining department is creating special beverages, both with and without alcohol, which will be named the "Total Eclipse."

"The solar eclipse will be an amazing event and the residents are excited to have the opportunity to observe it," said Kathryn Schumpert, life enrichment manager at GreenFields. "The last time the contiguous U.S. saw a total eclipse was in 1979, and we'll have to wait until 2024 to see the next one."
