Schaumburg outdoor pools will soon close for the season

Two of Schaumburg Park District's three outdoor pools will close at the end of August, but underwater adventures can continue all year long at The Water Works.

Atcher Island, 730 S. Springinsguth Road, and Meineke Pool, 220 E. Weathersfield Way, will close Sunday, Aug. 20. Atcher Island is a Polynesian tropical-themed water park featuring waterslides, a sprayground and a concessions area.

Meineke Pool features a 50-meter Olympic pool, separate diving well, water playground and swim lessons.

Bock Pool, 1223 W. Sharon Lane, will close Sept. 4. Bock offers a wading pool, diving area and a 9-foot climbing wall.

Although the outdoor pools will close for the season, The Water Works, 505 N. Springinsguth Road, is open year-round. This indoor water park features three waterslides, a rapid water channel, playground, diving pool, beach-like entry pool and a whirlpool. Swim lessons and party rentals also are offered.

"Pool fun doesn't have to end when summer does," said Heather Hagstrom, aquatic supervisor. "Off-season months are a great time to take advantage of swimming lessons that Schaumburg Park District offers."

The Water Works will be closed until Aug. 20 for yearly maintenance.
