Fred Fest supports forest restoration

Fred Fest will bring music, refreshments, and family-friendly activities to the Fox River Forest Preserve in Port Barrington from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children, and $25 for families.

The event benefits the Preservation Foundation of the Lake County Forest Preserves and raises funds for restoration of Grassy Lake Forest Preserve in Lake Barrington.

The musical lineup includes Sons of Bildor at noon, Dennis Caravello at 1 p.m., Blues Demolition at 2 p.m., The Fluffers at 3:15 p.m., and Hudson-McCoy at 4:30 p.m.

Pavilion seating is first-come, first-served, but guests are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs for lawn seating.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Kookers and Riverside Chocolates, but guests can bring their own, too. Anyone drinking alcoholic beverages must be 21 or older. No pets are permitted except service animals.

Family activities include learning about mammals with the Citizens for Conservation; collecting insects and learning about the early Native Americans of Lake County with the Lake County Forest Preserves; games and crafts with the Barrington Area Conservation Trust; a touch table from Cosley Zoo; becoming a Nature Detective at the L.L. Bean booth; a visit from the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois; and more.

Fox River Forest Preserve is at 28500 W. Roberts Road, Port Barrington.
