AHYAA Yankees go complete 22-0 season

On Monday, July 24, at Centennial Park in Arlington Heights, baseball magic occurred. For the first time in the Arlington Heights Youth Athletic Association's 50-year history, the Yankees high school team completed a perfect season at 22-0.

The Yankees championship pitching was led by two seniors, lefty Michael Grabner of Buffalo Grove High School and righty Nolan Siara of John Hersey High School.

Siara was winning pitcher in game one, pitching four innings, and Grabner was the winning pitcher in game two, with five and one-third innings, with the save going to Steven Dranka in the best of the three game series.

Each of the 15 players had great moments that kept the unbeaten streak going. The team's defense was amazing both infield and outfield.

"The Yankees were a very deep team in all aspects of the game, especially defense," said Roger Van Wazer, co-league representative.

The teams in this league are diverse, from varsity to freshman players, and draws from Hersey, St. Viator, Prospect, Wheeling, Buffalo Grove, Rolling Meadows and Elk Grove high schools.

All high school students are eligible to play. For league information, contact the Arlington Heights Youth Athletic Association at ahyaa.org.
