McHenry County adoption center to host 'Clear the Shelters Day' Aug. 19

The McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center will participate in the third annual "Clear the Shelters" Day on Saturday, Aug. 19, by waiving the adoption fee for all adoptable cats and dogs over 6 months of age from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

MCAC joins hundreds of shelters in 20 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico as part of this one-day adoption drive.

"We are proud to be part of this nationwide initiative. Adopted pets go to new owners spayed or neutered, micro chipped, and vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines, including the rabies shot. We ask adopters to make a donation of their choice," said Maryellen Howell, Manager of McHenry County Animal Control & Adoption Center.

In 2016 "Clear the Shelters Day" led to more than 54,000 pets going home with new families.

Since the event's inception in 2015 that number climbs to over 73,000.

The McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center's goal this year for "Clear the Shelters Day" is to "clear the shelter" and find homes for all of the adoptable animals at the center. They hope you will help them clear their shelter again this year!

The McHenry County Animal Control & Adoption is at 100 N. Virginia St. in Crystal Lake.
