Golf outing aids transitional housing facilities

On Friday, Aug. 18, The Staben House and Eddie Washington Center transitional facilities will host their 13th Annual Golf Outing Fundraiser.

This year's event will be held at Foss Park Golf Course, 3124 Argonne Drive, North Chicago. Registration will begin at 11 a.m., with lunch at 11:30 a.m. The golf outing will begin at noon with a shotgun start, followed by dinner and awards at 5 p.m.

The cost for golf, lunch and the awards dinner is $150 per person; awards dinner only is $50 per person.

Proceeds from the golf outing and raffle will benefit the Staben House and the Eddie Washington Center, transitional housing facilities for women with children and for men, respectively. The mission of each is to eradicate homelessness in Lake County.

Over the past 20 years combined, Staben House and the Eddie Washington Center have assisted more than 3,000 women, children and individuals with case management, life skills, child care, job skills and shelter, as well as the necessary tools to transition to stable permanent housing.

The Eddie Washington Center has won various awards because of the uniqueness and creative ways of confronting the homeless issues in Lake County. The awards include a first-place winner of the 1994 Governor's Home Town Award and the 1996 Lake County Affordable Housing Award winner.
