Bartlett Library Chess Club are back-to-back champions

The Bartlett Library Chess Club placed first in the annual Interlibrary Chess Tournament, held since 1984, at the Bloomingdale Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 5.

For the second year in a row, the Bartlett Public Library District has won the Interlibrary Chess Tournament, edging out the Carol Stream Public Library and the Bloomingdale Public Library.

Seasoned tournament veteran Brian Yu and newcomer Aarav Shah went undefeated in all six of their matches. Fellow teammates Britney Yu, Briana Yu, Beverley Yu, Isaac Johnson, Raj Parikh, Sophie Saflarski and Shubh Vaghani showcased their talents as well.

The team is coached by Art Monsivais and Sandra Sasal.

The Bartlett Public Library District offers separate chess clubs for children and adults throughout the year.

The next Chess Club program for grades 2-12 is at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11. Everyone is welcome to play chess with the Bartlett Library. Beginners will receive instructions on how to play.

The next Chess Club program for adults is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23. All boards and pieces will be supplied. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and provide instruction.
