St. Matthew Lutheran in Hawthorn Woods to host pig roast

St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hawthorn Woods, will hold its annual Pig Roast on Sunday, Aug. 13. The festival features food, fellowship, music, games and activities for children and adults.

Food will be served from noon to 5 p.m. Continuing with a tradition begun 27 years ago, St. Matthew will prepare and serve a delicious meal of roast pork, German potato salad, hot buttered sweet corn, applesauce, baked beans, rolls and butter, coffee and more, all for the price of one meal ticket.

Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-10 and free for children under 4. Some activities have an additional charge.

Other food will be available for purchase, including hot dogs, homemade apple strudel, and beverages including ice tea, soda, beer and wine. A Culver's trailer will also be on hand with ice cream cones and turtle sundaes available for purchase.

The festivities will be preceded by a Creative Service outdoors under a tent at 10:45 a.m., led by St. Matthew's Praise Team.

Returning again this year will be vocalist/guitarist Richard Chubb with his acoustic stylings, performing throughout the afternoon. New this year will be a dunk tank, bounce house and soccer dart. And there will also be midway games, face painting, and the ever-popular bingo.

St. Matthew is at 24500 N. Old McHenry Road, Hawthorn Woods.
