Star-Gazing Party offers astronomical family fun

Schaumburg Park District is going out of this world during Spring Valley's Star-Gazing Party, showcasing the nighttime wonders of summer.

The free event will take place 8:30 to 11 p.m., Aug. 12, at the Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road. Telescopes and binoculars will be available for viewing star clusters and identifying planets. If conditions allow, viewers likely will see the Perseid Meteor shower, constellations and a variety of other startastic delights.

"This event actually takes place right at the peak of the Perseid Meteor shower," said Mary Rice, education coordinator. "What we're trying to do is connect people to nature, including sky above us."

The star-studded fun continues inside the Nature Center, where crafts and other activities are planned.

Registration is not required. For more information, call (847) 985-2100 or visit parkfun.com.
