District 50 to host proof of residency event

Parents of children in Woodland District 50 schools can learn who their children's teachers will be for the new school year, buy physical education uniforms, pay fees or obtain free or reduced lunch applications during this year's annual proof of residency event Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 1 and 2.

The event for all Woodland families is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day at Woodland Middle School, 7000 Washington St., Gurnee.

Families who are new to the Woodland community are asked to first send an email to registration@dist50.net before attending the event. To attend the event, enter through the north or south doors of the building. There is no advantage to attending a particular day or time, but expect longer lines on the first day.

The reason for the event is to confirm that all students attending Woodland schools are District 50 residents. All families with a child at Woodland for the 2017-18 school year are required to prove the child lives in District 50.

Parents or guardians are asked to bring two of the following documents to prove residency:

For homeowners, two of the following:

• Current mortgage bill

• Current mortgage statement

• Current gas, electric, water, cable TV or home telephone bill (not a cellphone bill)

• Voter registration card or vehicle registration (with current address listed)

• Homeowner's insurance policy

• Driver's license, Illinois state identification card or Matricula card

For leaseholders/renters, a current signed and dated lease agreement with terms listed and those residing at the residence listed on the lease and one of the following:

• Current gas, electric, water, cable TV or home telephone bill (not a cellphone bill)

• Voter registration card or vehicle registration (with current address listed)

• Renter's insurance policy

• Driver's license, Illinois state identification card or Matricula card

During the residency event, parents will be given their children's school, class and bus information. Families will have the opportunity to pay fees, deposit funds in lunch accounts, buy spirit wear and physical education uniforms for middle school students, obtain information about the PTA, learn about the Woodland Educational Foundation, and obtain forms for fee waivers and free or reduced lunch applications.

For students entering sixth grade, student ID pictures will be taken.

The PTA will offer a limited number of school supply packs for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis. Spirit wear and PTA memberships also will be sold (cash or credit card only).

This is the 11th year Woodland has enhanced measures to require proof of residency. The first day of student attendance for first through eighth grades is Aug. 21 and the first day for primary students is Aug. 22.
