Young writers invited to get creative at Round Lake Beach's Authorfest

Gail Lukasik, New York Times Award Winning Author of the Leigh Girard mystery series - a seasonal series set in Door County, Wisconsin - will be one of the featured authors at the second annual Authorfest in Round Lake Beach.

Young Writers ages 4-18 are invited to enter their work, with finalists being highlighted at this year's Authorfest to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 5, at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center, 2007 Civic Center Way, Round Lake Beach.

An author's Q-and-A panel moderated by Steve Vaitonis discussing "Why the Written Word Still Rocks" will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Cultural Center.

The family-friendly event, sponsored by This Old Book in Grayslake, welcomes visitors to meet and buy signed books from more than 35 local authors who write in various genres. Visitors can also participate in a community art project hosted by Grayslake Art Alliance, a raffle, and a scavenger hunt. Children's activities include book readings and free face painting. There will also be live music by The Gardiner Jazz Combo and Here Comes Summer and food vendors will be available.

Information about the Authorfest authors can be found at the Authorfest section of the This Old Book website, thisoldbook.com/Authorfest.html.

Proceeds from the event after costs will benefit the proposed Ray Bradbury Library and Museum being planned at the former Carnegie Library in Waukegan. For information, see the group's web page, www.raybradburymuseum.org, or call (847) 201-9032.
