Palatine library offers new items for cardholders to borrow

Palatine Library is excited to announce the purchase of GoPros, STEM Kits, and Loom Knitting Kits for district cardholders to borrow - all due to the generosity of several donors.

GoPro cameras are available for a three-day check-out in the Digital Media Center, thanks to the Library Foundation. These small, durable, lightweight cameras capture stunning, high-definition video in almost any environment. They are perfect for action shots, including underwater - to 33 feet.

GoPros can record videos up to 4K resolution and allow instant playback on a touch screen. They come with suction and arm/tripod mounts. A separate accessory kit featuring a head strap, bike mounts and chest mounts is also available.

STEM kits can be checked out for one week at the first floor Reader Assistance Desk, thanks to generous donations from the family and friends of Ruth Kuttig. The kits explore a variety of science, technology, engineering and math topics, including astronomy, earth science, electronics, fossils, human body and more.

Curious kids in grades K-six can enjoy these hands-on activities with the guidance of a parent/caregiver. Explore learning games, scientific equipment, building circuits, examining insect X-rays, comparing specimens with a microscope, or exploring the night sky with a telescope.

Loom knitting kits are available for three-week check out with renewals at the second-floor Reference Desk. These beginner kits include the book "Learn to Knit on Long Looms," by Anne Bipes, a long loom, hook tool and plastic sewing needle. All you need is the yarn. This is a great way to try a project before buying all your own materials.
