Algonquin's National Night Out canceled due to storm recovery efforts

NOTE: Due to the unprecedented storms and flooding occurring in July, the Algonquin Police Department has been forced to cancel their National Night Out celebration at the Harnish Main Library on Tuesday, Aug. 1. The police department is currently focusing its efforts on helping the community recovery and does not have the manpower to support preparation for this event.

They look forward to hosting National Night Out again in 2018. National Night Out is an annual event promoting police-community partnerships and community camaraderie.

On Tuesday, Aug. 1, the Algonquin Police Department will bring National Night Out to the Algonquin Public Library's Harnish Main Library, 2600 Harnish Drive in Algonquin. National Night Out is an annual event promoting police-community partnerships and community camaraderie - and there's fun for the whole family.

National Night Out runs from 4 to 7 p.m. in the library's backyard and parking lot. Residents can participate in hourly raffles, meet with APD personnel, visit with rescue and comfort dogs from the Illinois/Wisconsin Search and Rescue Dog Team, and get a good view of high-tech emergency response vehicles. Kids will enjoy face painting, a "Cookies with a Cop" storytime, and a "Dunk-a-Cop" dunk tank. The event also will feature a special appearance by the Flight for Life helicopter. Grilled hot dogs will be served from 5 to 7 p.m.

National Night Out provides a great opportunity to get to know your community's police officers, ask questions, and perhaps even offer a few words of encouragement and appreciation.
