Check out 19th-century tools at 'Bread & Butter Day' Aug. 27

This year's Bread & Butter Day will feature a program on 19th-century tools from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Durant House Museum, 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles.

Celebrate both baking and tools used during the pioneering days at Durant House.

This combination program will have demonstrations about how bread and butter were made along with the chance to touch and see old tools in action.

All these items made on the farm required no electricity. How did the Durant family do it? Come visit and find out!

Making bread and butter by hand every week was essential for any farm family, not only fulfilling the family's needs but also for bartering too. Visitors will be able to help in the process of churning cream into butter and get a chance to see old butter molds and stamps on display.

Games and tours will also be available for interested parties.

Donations of $3 or $1 for kids for these hands-on history programs are appreciated.
