Benedictine hosts National Night Out

The Benedictine University Police Department invites the public to the Lisle campus for the fourth annual National Night Out event to help build partnerships between residents and their local emergency responders.

The free event will offer food and beverages, raffles, safety demonstrations, kids' games and display vehicles from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, in the Rice Center parking lot at the university, 5700 College Road, Lisle.

Campus police and members of the Lisle Police Department, Lewis University Police Department, North Central College Department of Campus Safety, DuPage County Sheriff's Office and the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District will provide demonstrations on public safety, emergency preparedness and crime prevention awareness.

Other features will include a touch-a-truck area with squad cars, fire trucks and other vehicles, face painting, a radar fastpitch, giveaways and a DUI goggle simulation, which simulates intoxication to educate about the dangers of over consumption.

Visitors can browse booths from local businesses such as the Lisle Lions Club, West Suburban Community Pantry, Partners and Paws Veterinary Services, Sanfratello's Pizzeria and Walgreens.

The community festival also will welcome the Illinois State Treasurer's Office, the Illinois Secretary of State's Office Organ Donor Program, and recruiters from the U.S. Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard.

In 2015, Benedictine's Police Department was selected as a College/University Award winner for its participation in the 32nd annual National Night Out by the National Association of Town Watch. Benedictine was one of only six colleges and universities recognized by NATW.
