Consumers Credit Union Hosts Summer Internship Program

Waukegan, IL, July 18, 2017: Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $1.1 Billion, Waukegan, IL) hosted a highly successful internship program this summer. Thanks to this unique program, a total of nine employees had the opportunity to learn about the financial services industry. All internships are paid positions at the Member-owned credit union.

Participants in the internship program worked in different areas of the credit union, based in part on their own career goals. "One of our program objectives was to offer our interns a real-world, work-life experience so they could better understand the career path they've already chosen," said Dave Valentine, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Allowing our interns to match their personal and professional interests to internship opportunities in a number of different departments helped us meet that goal."

How did CCU's interns view their experience? According to Grace Goldenshoph, who works in Human Resources and is the credit union's longest-serving intern, "Consumers Credit Union has given me the opportunity to apply the knowledge I learned in the classroom to real life work situations and grow through various experiences. These opportunities have allowed me to grow professionally and explore career opportunities in human resources."

Jessica Gromala, interning in the Marketing Department, said, "Consumers Credit Union is a diverse workplace with many opportunities to grow personally and professionally. Through CCU's Marketing Internship, I'm able to gain experience in the aspects of social media, public relations and marketing. I apply my education to the realities of working in marketing while continually learning new ideas and marketing strategies."

The credit union also enjoyed several benefits of the internship program. The summer interns helped support the 87-year old credit union's mission to provide quality service to Members by helping during the busy summer vacation season. The program is also designed to create a future path for those interns who both enjoy the program and have an interest in a career in the financial services industry.

"This program also provided valuable feedback about our products and services from our next generation of credit union Members," continued Valentine. "Working with young people gives us a great chance to look at what we offer from a completely new prism. The intelligence we gather from this process is taken very seriously and will be weighed heavily as we design new products and services in the future."
