Buffalo Grove students win CBAI Foundation scholarship awards

Scott Orlov and Ashley Kunz received scholarship awards from the 2017 CBAI Foundation for Community Banking Annual Scholarship Program.

Scott Orlov was awarded $1,000 and Ashley Kunz was awarded $500. Both are 2017 graduates of Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire and are residents of Buffalo Grove. Their entries were sponsored by Community Bankers Association of Illinois member American Enterprise Bank.

The CBAI Foundation for Community Banking Annual Scholarship Program is in its 31st year. The purpose of the scholarship program, sponsored by Illinois community banks and the CBAI Foundation for Community Banking, is to increase public awareness of locally owned banks and their contributions to the community.

Each year, the program awards one student $1,000 a year for up to four years of higher education, plus one $1,000 scholarship and one $500 scholarship for each of the other 12 of CBAI's 13 groups. Additionally, the high school of the overall winner receives $500.

Students were required to write essays about the impact or importance of community banking. Essay entries were judged and then semifinalists were notified and required to present their essays to a group of at least five people in order to increase the understanding of community banking and awareness of the scholarship program. The group received 248 entries for the 25 scholarship awards.

Norma Alperstein, branch manager, presented the scholarship awards to Orlov and Kunz at American Enterprise Bank's Buffalo Grove Branch. Orlov also met with Bradley D. Gordon, American Enterprise Bank's chairman, president and CEO.
