Triton College President Delivers Keynote Address to Franklin Park Business Leaders

Triton College's commitment to strengthening our communities by providing high quality training and workforce development opportunities to local businesses was the theme of President Mary-Rita Moore's keynote address at the annual Franklin Park Business Appreciation Luncheon. She spoke to the group of approximately 150 people representing businesses and community organizations on June 28 at Pescatore Palace Restaurant.

Triton's School of Continuing Education Center for Professional Development offers a wide variety customizable training programs. Several local businesses represented at the luncheon, including Aallied Die Casting Company of Illinois and Sureway Tool & Engineering, have already benefited from Triton's supervisory development training. It covers topics including conflict resolution, change management, performance evaluations, interviewing and hiring. Additional training programs available include project management, emergency preparation and workforce retention along with many others.

"Embedded in our strategic plan is to ensure that our businesses, the heartbeat of our community, are able to maintain a culture of cooperation and collaboration with a skilled and knowledgeable workforce," President Moore told the group.

Franklin Park Mayor Barrett Pedersen also spoke during the event. He highlighted surplus of manufacturing jobs in Franklin Park and the Chicagoland area, noting that many require a skill level above a high school education but below a four-year degree. He credited Triton for consistently preparing students to succeed in positions within local manufacturing companies.

"Triton College, in neighboring River Grove, is one of the nation's premiere two-year higher education institutions, filling this gap in worker skills," Pedersen said. "Its certificate, degree, career and continuing education programs gives students the skills they need to succeed in the workplace. Triton College provides businesses with the workers they need to succeed in the global marketplace."

President Moore's remarks echoed those sentiments, as she pointed out many graduates of Triton's career training programs have gained employment with Franklin Park companies, including Nestle USA and Ex-Cell Kaiser. Local businesses are also able to take advantage of Triton's cooperative education internship programs and find job-ready employees through the Career Services Department.

"The bottom line is that Triton is much more than a community college," President Moore said. "Whether it's a training opportunity or hiring one of our job-ready graduates - we are a partner, a resource and we are ready to serve you."
