Lake Park theater campers to stage 'Suessical'

After two weeks studying the art of theater in a Lake Park High School camp, students will showcase their skills in a public performance of "Seussical."

"Seussical Theatre for Young Audiences," a family musical that brings together favorite Dr. Seuss characters, will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, in the Lake Park High School's Dice Auditorium on East Campus, 600 S. Medinah Road, Roselle.

The performance represents the culmination of a two-week summer camp that includes classes in acting, singing, dancing and technical theater.

The 75-minute version of classic Seuss tales is suitable for all ages. Admission is free; doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Horton the Elephant, played by freshman Cole Mensik; The Cat in the Hat, played by junior Clarissa Consoli; Gertrude McFuzz, played by sophomore Emily Martyka; and Mayzie LaBird, played by senior Nicolette Pilalis, are part of a cast of more than 40 performers in grades five to 12 participating in Lake Park's Summer Theatre Camp.

Peacock Middle School eighth-grader Gianna Failla portrays JoJo, a little girl with a big imagination, who is transported from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
