Wauconda FBLA students recognized at national conference
Forty-four Wauconda High School students represented the state of Illinois at this year's Future Business Leaders of America National Competition. More than 9,800 high school students traveled to southern California to compete for more than $170,000 in cash awards.
The FBLA National Leadership Conference was held June 29 to July 2 in Anaheim. Participants from across the United States and abroad attended this conference to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and participate in more than 70 business and business-related competitive events.
Wauconda FBLA had two presentation teams receive national recognition at the FBLA Awards of Excellence Program on July 2. Eli Wurster, Lori Krawczyk and McKenzie Dopak competed in Public Service Announcement and brought home a seventh place award.
For the Public Service Announcement event, teams researched a provided topic and created 30-second videos on an objective toward the topic. This year's topic was safety and security surrounding the use of drones.
Raquel Acosta, Connor Brannick and Carlye Pichman competed in Introduction to Business Presentation, and also brought home a seventh place award. Their topic was to create a presentation for professional members, local businesses, and/or vendors to encourage participation in and show benefits of judging opportunities at FBLA competitions
The FBLA Chapter itself brought home a second-place national award in North Central Region Largest Local Chapter - Professional Division.
The awards are part of a comprehensive national competitive events program sponsored by FBLA-PBL that recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. For many students, the competitive events are the capstone activity of their academic careers. In addition to competitions, students immersed themselves in interactive workshops, visited an information-packed exhibit hall, and heard from motivational speakers on a broad range of business topics.
"I am so proud of all our 44 national qualifiers for working hard and doing their best," FBLA Adviser Wendy Mills said. "They are all winners in my eyes."
