McHenry County Animal Control to host two blood drives

McHenry County Animal Control in Crystal Lake will be the host location for blood drives taking place on Tuesday, July 11 with Heartland Blood Centers, and Tuesday, July 18 with LifeSource.

Both drives will be held at the McHenry County Department of Health Animal Control facility at 100 N. Virginia St., Crystal Lake.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, Heartland Blood Centers and MCAC are joining forces for a blood drive and pet adoption day. Schedule your appointment by calling Carrie at (815) 271-2910, or online at www.heartlandbc.org and clicking "donate now," then "find a nearby blood drive." Walk-ins are welcome and participants will receive a Target gift card. Heartland Blood Centers is the sole provider to 75 hospitals in the Chicago area.

"Save lives by giving blood - give shelter animals a home by adopting" is the theme for the July 11 blood drive.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, LifeSource will hold an on-site blood drive at MCAC. Appointments for this blood drive can be made by contacting LifeSource at (877) 543-3768 or online at www.lifesource.org and clicking "make an appointment" then searching sponsor code "463D." Walk-ins are welcome. Participating donors will receive a McDonald's gift card. LifeSource has 18 community donor centers, conveniently located throughout Chicago.

In support of people and pets being prepared, Lost Dogs of Illinois will be creating and donating pet tags during the drive. According to Maryellen Howell, manager of veterinary public health at the McHenry County Health Department, "We stress families be prepared for any given situation. This includes pets."
