A Star Spangled Spectacular Concert by the Wheaton Municipal Band

The Wheaton Municipal Band presents its 5th concert of the 2017 summer season by welcoming Dr. Timothy Rhea to the podium on Thursday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Park in Downtown Wheaton.

Dr. Timothy Rhea has been the Director of Bands and performance ensembles at Texas A & M University since 2002. Rhea leads not only the concert band program at one of the top music schools in the country, but he also is involved with the award winning marching band as well.

In addition to conducting, Rhea maintains a very successful career as an arranger and composer, with over 300 compositions to his credit. For over ten years, he maintained an extremely active schedule as an arranger for both university and public school marching bands. As a composer, various commissions have resulted in performances for the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, the College Band Directors Association, the Cotton Bowl, and the Tournament of Roses Parade. Rhea maintains a nationally active schedule as conductor, clinician, and adjudicator as well.

As you would expect, the program is chocked full of Rhea's arrangements. The Golden Bear March by Richards, edited by Rhea, Rusian and Lyudmila Overture by Glinka/transcribed by Rhea, March Slave by Tchaikovsky transcribed by Rhea, Radio Waves March by Fred Jewell edited by Rhea and Turkey in the Straw arranged by Rhea. But Rhea's experience has brought him a wealth of programming experience. He has included works by other great composers as well: including English Dances, set II by Arnold, The Kirkpatrick Fanfare by Boysen and Highlights from the Wizard of Oz.

Each week the musicians in the Wheaton Municipal Band are challenged to pull a concert together with only one rehearsal. There is barely enough time during the rehearsal to run all the music. Add to this, the challenge of a guest conductor and this is what makes the Wheaton Municipal Band so great. The concerts are top-notch musical performances and the audience appreciates the fine musicianship of the band.

Don't miss this wonderful concert, Thursday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park in Downtown Wheaton. Bring a picnic, a lawn chair and sit back and relax. The concerts are FREE. For more information go to http://www.wheatonmunicipalband.org.
