Aurora farmers market wares to include prayers

The second of six summer prayer booths at the downtown Aurora farmers market, 233 S. Broadway, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 1.

The Rev. Deborah Tinsley Taylor, pastor at Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Aurora and booth sponsor, invited the public. The service is free.

She said the fourth annual series of prayer booths will continue on July 22, Aug. 12, Sept. 2 and 23.

One to three church volunteers - called pray-ers - will offer prayers for visitors in English and Spanish. Written prayer requests will also be accepted.

In addition to prayers, free bottled water, dog biscuits, pens, and church literature will be available.

Home-baked sweet breads will be offered for donations.

The prayer booth is believed to be the Aurora market's first in its 100-year history - Illinois oldest - and the only one of its kind among outdoor markets.

"This prayer ministry involves praying aloud for people who probably don't attend our church. They may have experience with prayer for or with another, or no experience with prayer," Rev. Taylor added. "Their concerns may be small or great. For pray-ers, this can be a very positive and uplifting experience."
