Precision Shopping Cart Brigade seeks volunteers

The Precision Shopping Cart Brigade is seeking volunteers to help when it performs in Glen Ellyn's Fourth of July Parade to collect donations for the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry.

The brigade performs coordinated maneuvers, accepts nonperishable grocery donations and raises awareness about hunger in our communities.

Organized by Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn, the brigade is joined by several other faith communities. Volunteers are needed for the following tasks:

• Volunteer coordinator for your organization to help the pantry.

• Distribute fliers to homes along the parade route before the parade with donation food requests.

• Decorate shopping carts before the parade.

• March with the brigade.

• Shuttle donations from the brigade carts to the support truck during the parade.

• Bring nonperishable items to the parade.

• Ask friends and neighbors to bring donations to the parade.

• Unload the trucks after the parade back at Grace Church.

Located inside Grace Lutheran Church, 493 Forest Ave., the pantry is a 38-year-old nonprofit organization that supports families and individuals in Glen Ellyn, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Wheaton, Lombard and Lisle.

The pantry provides groceries for roughly 5,000 families each year. More than 300 volunteers help collect, sort and administer to the customers who come to the pantry on regularly scheduled weekdays.
