Arlington Heights Historical Society offers free tours

It all started with a small band of interested residents meeting in their homes to collect historical letters, pictures and records about the village of Arlington Heights.

Chartered in May 1957 as a nonprofit organization, the society is now one of the three partners of the Arlington Heights Historical Museum complex that includes five buildings, a vast collection of artifacts and a historical library.

Free tours of the five buildings are available from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays, June 24, July 29, Aug. 26 and Sept. 30. The Muller House, Banta House, Coach House, Log Home and Pop Factory will be open to the public. Tours are self-guided with docents available to answer questions and provide highlights. No registration is necessary.

Tours begin in the Heritage Gallery, 110 W. Fremont St., with the exhibit: "A Pop of Local Flavor: A Sweet Story of Arlington Club." The exhibit provides history of the Arlington Club soda introduced in 1872 by F.W. Muller. In addition to the history of the soda, the exhibit offers visitors an insight into the Muller family.

The free tours are scheduled on the last Saturday of each month during the farmers market, which is held weekly every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. until Oct. 14 in the commuter lot across the street from the Arlington Heights Historical Museum.

After touring the museum, visitors have an opportunity to purchase Arlington Club soda four-packs in the gift shop, as well as other Arlington Heights related items.

The Arlington Heights Historical Society is still a band of interested citizens as its members and those who serve on the board of directors. The society continues to collect, preserve and celebrate the historical heritage of Arlington Heights.

The Arlington Heights Historical Society invites you to visit the gallery, attend an event, tour the buildings, become a member, or shop at the store.
