Police Rewarding Citizens for Summer Safety and Good 'McDeeds'

Police officers from multiple agencies June 21 surprised more than a dozen children with rewards for their good "McDeeds" at the Lincolnshire Police Department's youth summer camp at Adlai E. Stevenson High School.

Police in nine suburban cities said they are on the watch this month for people doing good things in their community. When citizens are spotted wearing a bike helmet, obeying traffic signals, or helping a neighbor through a random act of kindness, they will be rewarded by officers on patrol handing out vouchers for a free summer treat redeemable at their participating neighborhood McDonald's.

"As the summer months are now upon us and students are out of school, nine law enforcement agencies from northern Cook, Lake, and Kendall Counties are joining forces to remind people to be safe when outside enjoying the warm weather," said Chief Steven R. Casstevens of the Buffalo Grove Police Department. "We're on the lookout for people of all ages following the rules; from kids who look both ways before crossing the street to those offering their neighbors a helping hand."

Citizens will be rewarded by police with a free ice cream at McDonald's for their actions to protect themselves and others.

"The safety of the communities we serve is one of the highest priorities we value at McDonald's, and that's why we're proud to partner with police this summer and reward people for doing the right thing," said Chris Prucnal, Owner/Operator of 12 McDonald's restaurants in the greater Chicago region.

Citizens who receive a voucher card can redeem their free treat at any of the participating McDonald's restaurants in Buffalo Grove, Glenview, Lincolnshire, Mount Prospect, Niles, Prospect Heights, Schaumburg, Wheeling, and Yorkville through the end of the year on behalf of owner/operators: David Bear, Bryan Consolo, Laura Mendez, John O'Keefe, Chris Prucnal, Christine Schenk, Michael Schenk, Edward Schmitt, Jr. and Derrick Taylor.

Law enforcement agencies partnering with McDonald's on this summer safety initiative include the Buffalo Grove Police Department, Glenview Police Department, Lincolnshire Police Department, Mount Prospect Police Department, Niles Police Department, Prospect Heights Police Department, Schaumburg Police Department, Wheeling Police Department and the Kendall County Sheriff's Office.
