Defenders to screen 'The Family Farm' June 27

The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County will offer a free screening of "The Family Farm." The documentary is a Canadian film, written and directed by Ari Cohen. The film is 70 minutes in length and a discussion will follow.

"The Family Farm" explores the farm to table process through the lens of Canadian small farmers and identifies the systematic barriers they face in running a profitable farm. In its journey across the country, the film blends extraordinary shots of the Canadian farm landscape with discussions of the challenges and setbacks small farmers endure, as well as the turning points and breakthroughs that have allowed them to achieve success."

The event is co-sponsored by The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, FoodShed Co-op, Citizens' Climate Lobby McHenry County Chapter and The Land Conservancy of McHenry County.

The film, hosted by McHenry County College's Sustainability Center, will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Luecht Conference Center at the McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is free to the public but donations will be appreciated.

The Environmental Defenders helps educate the public on environmental issues through the documentary film series and other special events. In order to protect all living things, the Environmental Defenders is dedicated and committed to the preservation and improvement of the natural environment in McHenry County.
