Catholics and Muslims share their perspective in Ramadan dinner at the Libertyville Islamic center

Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago holds its Annual Muslim-Catholic Iftar in partnership with the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Islamic Foundation North Located at 1751 O'Plaine Rd, Libertyville , IL 60048. CIOGC's relationship with the Archdiocese began two decades ago and has only strengthened over time. Designated speakers from the Muslim and Catholic faiths covered the topic, "Obligations to speak & reflect Truth in Society." The iftar is the evening meal when Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset.

Two hundred fifty Muslims, Catholics and people of different faiths came together to meet each other in the IFN Mosque Libertyville, and discover the meaning of the tenets of each other's faiths.

The program was emceed by Karen Danielson. The program started on time with the recitation of the Qur'an by Qari Osman Sharif a student from IFN Academy. After the recitation of Quran, Islamic Foundation North President Vaseem Iftekhar welcomes and thanked everyone who had put in efforts to organize the wonderful event. CIOGC Chair Dr. Bassam Osman highlighted the importance of Interfaith Programs and explains about the today's event to know about the Obligations to speak & reflect Truth in Society. Very Rev. Fr. Thomas A. Baima introduced the esteemed speakers for the event

There were two esteemed speakers on the event one was Dr. Melanie Barrett and another was Mr. Kareem Irfan. Esq. Melanie Barrett she is a Chairperson and Assistant Professor in the Department of Moral Theology at the University of St. Mary of the Lake, and Kareem Irfan, chair of the CIOGC Interfaith Committee and former Chairman of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago

Both esteemed speakers shared their faith experience and perspective in Obligations to Speak & Reflect the Truth in Society. Dr. Melanie Barrett shared information based on bible testimony and about Jesus commandments. Kareem Irfan shared information based on Quranic and about Prophet Muhammad as a role model

Most Rev. Bishop George Rassas received a shield from Islamic Foundation North for thanks and appreciation

The program was very well organized, prestigious and enjoyed by the attendees and will be remembered. A sumptuous dinner was served for all after Maghreb Prayer.
