Palatine Student Wins Second Place in International Trumpet Guild Competition

Stefan Filip, a talented 15-year-old freshman at Palatine High School, who recently took 1st place in the National Trumpet Competition, Junior Division, has added to his recognition as a leading trumpet artist by taking second place in the prestigious International Trumpet Guild Youth Competition (junior division) recently held in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

He credits his award winning performance to his teachers, especially his tutelage under Professor Robert Sullivan from Northwestern University, Professor David Hickman from Arizona State University and Dr. Chris Gigolea from Guelph, Canada ( and a fellow Romanian)

Stefan was selected in District 7 ILMEA Senior Honor Band and District 211 Honor Orchestra, and received Superior ranking in IHSA Solo Competition for trumpet and piano. He was a national finalist for MTNA Brass Senior Division in Baltimore.

Stefan continues to play with Logos Symphony Orchestra and Logos Brass Ensemble in Niles, Illinois.

He will be returning back to CYSO, playing in Philharmonic Orchestra for 2017/2018 season.

Stefan, lives in Palatine with his parents Delia and Viorel Filip.
