Keep your family safe while on Lakemoor roads this summer

With Memorial Day having just passed and the unofficial start of summer kicking off, more drivers will be hitting the road to enjoy the warm summer months in McHenry County. This week marks Automotive Service Professionals Week, which runs from June 11-17 and to honor this week FGM Law in Marengo would like Lakemoor residents to begin thinking about preventative maintenance of the family vehicle and schedule an appointment with a local professional to get open-road ready.

Approximately 27% of all fatal crashes happen during the summertime months of June, July and August according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's most recent reports. "You would think that snow and ice would be the biggest causes of accidents," commented Steven Greeley Jr., a Personal Injury Lawyer with FGM Law in Marengo who specializes in auto accident cases. "But that's just not the case. The warmer weather brings more people out on the roads." According to Greeley, a lot of the cases they work through are completely preventable and could have been avoided by staying focused and through routine maintenance.

There are still a few weeks before Lakemoor schools let out and the family trips really get going. Now is a great time to bring your vehicle in to a local shop and get it ready for all the summer activities.

3 SIMPLE STEPS THAT CAN HELP KEEP YOU SAFE ON LAKEMOOR ROADS.

• TIRES: Have your tires rotated if needed and ensure they are filled to the proper Pounds per Square Inch (PSI). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that nearly 11,000 accidents a year are tire related.

• WIPERS: Check and replace your wipers. Waiting for the rain to start is the wrong time to focus on visibility. If they need it, change them when the weather is nice.

• DIRT: Keep your vehicle clean. When stopping for gas use the squeegee to clean your headlights in addition to your windows; 10-50% of light can be reduced due to a layer of dirt on your headlights.

Following a few quick and easy steps can help ensure that your summer is filled with the type of memories you want to remember.
