Des Plaines group donates $2,500 to Elk Grove Township Food Pantry

The Elk Grove Township Food Pantry recently received a generous donation from a Des Plaines-based nonprofit organization, whose main cause is to ensure area residents have enough food to eat.

The Des Plaines Community Foundation is the organization behind a $2,500 donation, which was presented by Dick Sayad, an 18-year board member for the nonprofit organization, who is also the 4th ward alderman for the city of Des Plaines.

The check was presented to Elk Grove Township Supervisor Mike Sweeney on May 9.

"We are very grateful for this donation; the summer months are an especially difficult time to keep the shelves of our food pantry stocked due to higher than normal need," Sweeney said. "The Des Plaines Community Foundation is a great example of the many partnerships we have been able to establish with area organizations to ensure we can best serve our residents."

Donated funds are raised through charitable events hosted by the nonprofit on a yearly basis.

"The foundation is very pleased to have the opportunity to give back to the community and to residents who need assistance," Sayad said. "This donation serves our Des Plaines neighbors who are also residents of Elk Grove Township."

In addition to Elk Grove Township, the Des Plaines Community Foundation has also made donations to several other area food pantries, all of which serve Des Plaines residents. The organization will be hosting an upcoming Casino Night Fundraiser at the Des Plaines Rivers Casino in September 2017.
