Mount Prospect residents deliver to help Stamp Out Hunger

On Saturday, May 13, Mount Prospect residents supported the annual Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive in record numbers, delivering 27,000 pounds - more than triple the 6,300 pounds collected in 2016 - of nonperishable food donations to benefit Northwest Compass Food Connection.

The NALC Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive, where letter carriers collect food donations left near mailboxes and deliver them to local food banks, is the nation's largest one-day food drive.

2017 marked the 25th anniversary of the drive, and Northwest Compass Food Connection is honored to have been its Mount Prospect beneficiary since moving from Arlington Heights to its home at 1300 W. Northwest Hwy. 20 years ago.

Working alongside letter carriers and post office staff, 45 Northwest Compass volunteers provided 99 hours of service to retrieve and begin sorting food from 385 postal bins.

"We are grateful to the NALC for coordinating this effort each year, and for the generous donations of our neighbors," said LeRoy Messenger, Northwest Compass CEO. "We want to say thank you to the post office staff, Mount Prospect residents and our own volunteers for their overwhelming response to this year's food drive."

Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America collect the goodness and compassion of their postal customers, who participate in the NALC Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive.
