Chicago Master Singers Choral Workshops in Palatine Open to the Public

Chicago Master Singers will sponsor three choral workshops led by prominent clinicians on June 12, 19 and 26 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. each evening in Palatine, Ill. They are designed to help singers at all skill levels enhance their choral, solo and audition skills. The workshops are open to the public.

On Monday, June 12, the focus is on "How to Sing Baroquely," drawing on examples from Handel's Messiah. Workshop leaders are Dr. Julia Davids, Director of the North Shore Choral Society, and Baroque violinist Martin Davids. Participants will learn principles of articulation and phrasing necessary for professional-level performance of Baroque music.

"Taking Your Singing to the Next Level with Vocal Coaching" will by offered on Monday, June 19, by Richard Boldrey, Vocal Coach and Senior Lecturer on the Voice and Opera faculty at Northwestern University. Participants will discover how vocal coaching differs from voice training and how it helps both professional and amateur singers improve their performance.

The final workshop on Monday, June 26, covers "How to Protect Your Vocal Health." It will be led by Robert Bastian, M.D. and founder of the Bastian Voice Institute. He will discuss what can go wrong with the voice, including medical disorders and problems singers create themselves through misuse of the voice. Dr. Bastian draws on decades of experience treating vocal disorders in patients from the worlds of opera, musical theatre and pop music.

The workshops will be held at Countryside Unitarian Universalist Church, 1025 N Smith St, Palatine, Ill. The cost to attend is $20 for individual workshops, or $50 for all three. Advance registration is recommended. For more information and to register, go to www.chicagomastersingers.org/choral-workshops.
