Countryside Fire District prevents distracted driving

The Illinois Department of Transportation awarded Countryside Fire Protection District a $3,000 grant to purchase boulevard banners for a safe driving campaign.

The boulevard banners have various messages to help reduce injuries and death caused by vehicle crashes. A few of the messages read: "One text or call could wreck it all"; "Stop the Texts, Stop the Wrecks"; and "Buckle Up Everyday, Every Trip."

"Texting while driving is an epidemic," Public Education Coordinator Tony Rodkey said. "Drivers are not putting their phones away when driving, which has led to wrecks, injuries and deaths."

"I believe these boulevard banners will help remind commuters to keep their hands on the steering wheel and drive safely," Rodkey said.

Countryside Fire Protection District has partnered with the Vernon Hills Public Works Department to assist in installing banners on utility light posts along various streets and highways.
