See silent comedian Harold Lloyd at Arcada film series

The Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St. in St. Charles, continues its "Silent Film Night" series with a screening of the 1922 film "Dr. Jack" starring silent film comedian Harold Lloyd at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 6. The movie will be accompanied live by Jay Warren on the historic 1927 Arcada organ. Tickets are $10. Visit www.arcadalive.com.

The film, also starring Mildred Davis, was directed by Sam Taylor and Fred Newmeyer. A Harold Lloyd short "Get Out and Get Under" from 1920 also will be shown.

The series will continue on July 11 with "The Lost World," featuring stop-motion special effects by film pioneer Willis O'Brien. The 1925 film stars Wallace Beery, Lloyd Hughes and Bessie Love.

On Aug. 1, the Douglas Fairbanks swashbuckler "The Black Pirate" will be shown. The 1926 film, directed by Albert Parker, also stars Billie Dove.

On Sept. 5, the classic silent film "Metropolis" will be shown. The 1926 film by German director Fritz Lang stars Alfred Abel, Gustav Frohlich and Brigitte Helm.

Kick off the Halloween season on Oct. 3 with the screening of the 1922 F.W. Murnau horror film "Nosferatu," starring Max Schreck, Greta Schroder and Gustav Von Wangenheim.

The Arcada Theatre opened in 1926 as a silent film and vaudeville theater. Relive those glory days of the Roaring Twenties' silent film era the first Tuesday of each month. Jay Warren, Chicago's foremost pipe organ expert will perform on the Arcada's 1926 classically restored 3/16 Marr Colton/Geneva organ.

Enjoy fresh popcorn while watching a silent film in a 1920s vaudeville theater.

In addition to popcorn, there are food and drink specials, including hot dogs, Bavarian pretzels, pizza grinders, and regular or jumbo Guinness beer brats.

Tickets for members of the Chicago Area Theatre Organ Enthusiasts or the Silent Film Society of Chicago are $8.
