Meijer, Elk Grove Twp. partner for 'Simply Give' program

Shoppers at the Meijer in Rolling Meadows can make their donation dollars go further and benefit the Elk Grove Township Food Pantry by participating in the Spring "Simply Give" program, which runs through Sunday, June 18.

The program has generated $28 million in food donations for 230 food pantries across the Midwest since 2008. This is the third time in the last year that Meijer has partnered with Elk Grove Township to help to replenish the Township Food Pantry, which benefits township residents experiencing financial hardships.

Throughout the campaign, Meijer customers are able to purchase $10 Meijer Simply Give donation cards. The funds raised are then donated directly to the Elk Grove Township Food Pantry. Shoppers can choose to make the donations while in the store check-out line.

"We are truly thankful to Meijer for including Elk Grove Township once again in the 'Simply Give' program," said Elk Grove Township Supervisor Mike Sweeney.

"The summer is an especially challenging time for us to keep the food pantry shelves stocked because overall donations normally decline - so this partnership is extremely valuable for our in-need residents."

Meijer additionally sponsors "double match days," where for every $10 that is donated by shoppers, the store will donate an additional $20 to the food pantry. Double Match days to benefit the Elk Grove Township Food Pantry will be held Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3.

Instead of determining what food to donate to their food pantry partners, Meijer's Simply Give program allows food pantries flexibility to choose grocery items that are best suited and most needed for the families served.
