Gilberts Community Days features three days of free music
Festival season in the Fox Valley kicks off this weekend with Gilberts Community Days.
Highlights of the three-day fest include live music, carnival rides, a petting zoo, a car show and plenty of food and drink.
Festival hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 2-4, at Town Square Park, Route 72 and Center Drive 2, Gilberts. Admission is free.
Scheduled bands include Dickie Anderson, Old School and American English on Friday; Racket, Serendipity, Bad Penny, Goin South, Last Gasp and Shindig on Saturday; "The Voice" contestant Riley Elmore, The Belvederes and Hip Pockit on Sunday.
Saturday afternoon is geared toward kids, with John Measner's Magic Truck from noon to 4 p.m., as well as a kids' craft and activity tent.
Food offerings include festival favorites such as hot dogs and brats, as well as barbecued beef, chicken and pulled pork; Italian beef and sausage; tacos and burritos; pizza; roasted corn; homemade potato chips and deep-fried candies and treats. Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages will be available. A $2 wrist band purchase is required to drink alcohol.

From 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, a free shuttle service is provided by the YMCA. Look for signs at the intersection of Route 72 and Prairie Parkway.
