Join Donut Eating Contest to raise funds, awareness for Salvation Army services

The Salvation Army Tri City Corps Joe K. Anderson Community Center has partnered with Blue Goose Market to host its first Donut Eating Contest in order to raise funds and awareness for crucial services they offer in the Fox Valley area.

With a goal of $5,000, money raised from the event will directly benefit programs and services for individuals and families that include: emergency assistance with rent, utility, food, etc., community center activities such as an after-school program, summer day camp, and community exercise classes, character building programs and youth nights. Health and education programs are also available for seniors that include exercise, blood/heart screenings and more.

National Donut Day was launched in 1938 by The Salvation Army in Chicago - in part to raise funds for, and awareness of, the organization's work in the community, especially during the Great Depression, but the spirit behind the day was the recognition of these women's contribution to the war effort.

The Salvation Army has set up an online registration and donation page for anyone who would like to be a doughnut eating contestant or make a donation in order to support the local work of the Army.

The Donut Eating Contest will be 7:30 to 9 a.m. Friday, June 2, at Blue Goose Market, 300 S. Second St., St. Charles. Voting in person is from 7:30 to 8 a.m. with the doughnut-eating contest commencing at 8 a.m. A Salvation Army canteen will be on-site to pass out free coffee and doughnuts to those who attend the event.

To help with your support, you can vote online prior to the event or send donations at salar.my/eatdonuts. Text EATDONUTS to 71777.
