Four CLC students earn medals at SkillsUSA state competition

Seven College of Lake County automotive collision repair students competed at the SkillsUSA Illinois State Conference April 27-29 in Springfield, and four earned medals. They competed in automotive refinishing technology and collision repair.

"The seven students who attended the state competition represented CLC well and competed confidently, with class and style. I am very proud of them," said Jeff Hines, coordinator of the SkillsUSA CLC chapter and instructor of computerized numeral control and machine tool trades.

The CLC students who earned medals were:

David Garcia (Volo), 1st place in Collision Repair

Lukas Fliess (Union Grove, Wisc.), 2nd place in Collision Repair

Jerry Davies (Hawthorn Woods), 3rd place in Collision Repair

Alex Vara (Kildeer), 3rd place in Automotive Refinishing

Other competitors were: David Morales (Elgin), Jeff Herson (North Chicago) and Julie Brain (Wonder Lake).

Garcia, the first place winner, will go on to compete in SkillsUSA National Conference in Louisville, Ky. in June 2017.
