Memorial Day Weekend LifeSource Blood Drives Scheduled for Grayslake, Vernon Hills

LifeSource will host Memorial Day Weekend blood drives with the Grayslake and Lincolnshire- Riverwoods fire department.

The Lincolnshire-Riverswoods Fire Department will host its drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, at Fire Station 53, located at 671 Woodlands Parkway in Vernon Hills, across from Lifetime Fitness. The Grayslake Fire Department will host its drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. that same day at Fire Station Bay, located at 160 Hawley Street.

All donors will receive a special edition patriotic T-shirt at both drives. In addition, LifeSource will make a monetary donation for every blood donor to Naperville-based Operation Support Our Troops, a non-profit organization that support the morale and well-being of American forces by providing comfort and resources while they are deployed in harm's way and after their return.

According to blood drive sponsor, LifeSource, the timing couldn't be more ideal. "Summer months typically see a decrease in the number of blood donations due vacation traveling and because donors often have to stay home to look after their school age children," says Executive Director Eva Quinley.

Appointments for the blood drive are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. Donors can schedule their appointment by calling LifeSource at (877) 543-3768, or visiting lifesource.org and making an appointment using group code 013 for the Grayslake drive and O82D for Vernon Hills.

In preparation for their donation, donors are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with proper identification. The donation process takes about an hour and is both safe and comfortable. Donors must be at least 18 years old (16 and 17 years of age with parental consent).

Proper ID is required to donate blood. A LifeSource or military ID, driver's license or employee badge with a picture and full name are all approved forms of ID. A birth certificate along with a picture ID that includes the donor's full name will also be accepted.
