WAYS offers summer day camps

Parents looking for a fun and affordable summer activity for their elementary or middle schoolchildren may want to check out the Summer Day Camp offered by Wayne/Winfield Area Youth/Family Services in West Chicago.

Camp runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, May 30 to Aug. 18, at 27W031 North Ave., West Chicago. Extended hours of 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. are available for an additional fee.

The full fee is $70 per week and income-based scholarships are available. With a grant from DuPage County, at least 12 slots are available for poverty-level families living in DuPage. Breakfast and lunch are included. Youths may attend any or all weeks.

A staff of professional counselors will lead the camps using research-based skill-building activities in a group format. Camp also will offer programming in nutrition, financial literacy and social skills.

New this year is programming in job skills and career exploration, with field trips and guest speakers. Trips include visiting places such as a culinary classroom at the College of DuPage, Elmhurst College, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, We Grow Dreams Green House, Bartlett Library, Fona International, and Ecolab.

Guest speakers include such professionals as a nurse, paralegal, teacher and police officer.
