Bartlett School to receive Heritage Marker

Hanover Township will dedicate a Heritage Marker at Bartlett Elementary School, 1111 E. North Ave., at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 26.

Originally serving grades 1-10, Bartlett School was the only school in the village until 1970.

The school was also the hub of village activities and functioned as a community-gathering place for civic organizations, war efforts, Girl and Boy Scout troops, and community plays and events.

The school was first located above a general store before its move to the southwest corner of North and Hickory avenues.

In 1929, that structure was razed and the school moved to its current location where it continues to serve the students of Hanover Township and Bartlett in kindergarten through 6th grade.

Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire, Bartlett Elementary School Principal Lorelei Keltner and a representative from the Bartlett History Museum will speak at the dedication ceremony.

Students, local officials, U-46 administration and other dignitaries will be in attendance.
