The AquaSprites Synchronized Swim Team of Lattof YMCA qualify for 2017 U.S. Synchronized Swimming Junior Olympic Championships in Riverside, CA

The AquaSprites Synchronized Swimming Team from Lattof YMCA, Des Plaines, was awarded six gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the U.S. Synchronized Swimming Regional B Championship held at Lattof YMCA, May 13-14. This was a qualifying event for competitors from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Missouri to advance to the Junior Olympics Nationals in Riverside, California in July. All 11 AquaSprites swimmers and eight out of 10 routines qualified for Nationals.

The top two solos in each age group advance; the top three per age group advance in duet, combo and team:

• First and second place 11-12 JO solo: First, Anita Mihaylova; second, Melanie Angelov, both from Mount Prospect; 13-15 JO solo: Faye Polykov, Glenview.

• First place 11-12 JO duets: First, Anita Mihaylova & Melanie Angelov; 13-15 JO duets: Second, Lexi Dorula, Prospect Heights and Alice Duska, Chicago; third, Chaewon Park, Mount Prospect and Ema Glavanovic, Des Plaines.

• First place 13-15 JO Team: Lexi Dorula, Alice Duska, Anita Mihaylova, Chaewon Park and Ema Glavanovic.

• First place 13-15 Combination Team: Lexi Dorula, Alice Duska, Anita Mihaylova, Chaewon Park, Ema Glavanovic, Simona Beltowski, Mount Prospect, Isabella Stefanek, Mount Prospect, Faye Polyakov, Michaelle Kneznik, Indian Head Park, Melanie Angelov and alternate Gabriela Mincikova, Bridgeview.

• First & second place 11-12 JO figures: First, Anita Mihaylova and second Melanie Angelov; third place 13-15 JO figures: Alice Duska.

The AquaSprites team is open to those ages 6-18 who can swim a length of the pool. The novice class begins June 6 and meets Tuesdays between 6-7 p.m. Beginner synchro swimmers will learn beginning synchro skills such as sculling, ballet legs, somersaults and kips.

Registration is currently underway for members and practices take place at Lattof YMCA, 300 E Northwest Highway, Des Plaines.
