MCCD to host 'Ice Cream Social of 1858' June 11 at historic Powers-Walker House

All ages are invited to join McHenry County Conservation District volunteers in period attire as they recreate the feel of an old-fashioned "Ice Cream Social of 1858."

Drop in anytime between noon and 4 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at the Powers-Walker House Historic Landmark site in Glacial Park, off Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.

Take a break from your hectic modern life and eat ice cream, play old-time games, or tour the historic Powers-Walker house, which is open to the public only a few times a year.

Various historical characters will stop by to tell you of their lives, including a cavalryman and his horse heading off to defend the frontier. Registration is not required.
