Glueckert Funeral Home to Sponsor Entry in 2017 Memorial Day Parade Honoring Veterans

For the fifth consecutive year, Glueckert Funeral Home invites veterans, relatives and friends to join them in the Arlington Heights Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29.

The parade entry is an "Honor Flag and Ribbon" procession honoring veterans, living and deceased, as well as active duty members of the military. Area organizations also participating in the Honor Banner and Flag entry features LCC Kare-9, Hersey High School 'Service Over Self', St. Theresa Youth Group LIFT, Clearbrook CILA, Boy Scout Troop 132, Boy Scout Troop 37, and Salute, Inc. The Grand Marshal for this year's parade is Brigadier General Fredrick R. Maiocco, Jr., Commander 85th Support Command, Arlington Heights.

Jackie Glueckert, entry coordinator for Glueckert Funeral Home shares, "Every year we are excited and grateful to be joined by so many wonderful community partners. The parade is even more special with their amazing participation."

Each volunteer may carry a U.S. flag in honor of the veteran(s) they wish to recognize. A personalized Honor Ribbon with the name of the veteran or active service member will be provided for each person marching in the Glueckert Funeral Home entry. Upon entering Memorial Park, the flags and personalized Honor Ribbons will be displayed for the Arlington Heights Memorial Day Ceremony. The parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. sharp (please arrive by 8:45 a.m. for check-in for flags and honor banners) from Sigwalt and Arlington Heights Road. It proceeds one mile to Memorial Park. There at 11a.m., a ceremony honoring Arlington Heights heroes who paid the ultimate price for our freedom from the Civil War through to the Afghanistan theaters of action will take place. The names of veterans who have passed away in the last year will be read aloud. Arlington Heights has been honoring its veterans on Memorial Day since the end of World War I.

Residents are asked to bring a flag (on a pole) to Glueckert Funeral Home at 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road on or before Tuesday, May 23. Also, we will record the name of the veteran being honored so we may customize an Honor Ribbon Sash to be worn in the parade. After Memorial Day, the flags may be picked up at Glueckert Funeral Home by June 3rd. You may opt to have us donate your flag to the Arlington Heights American Legion Post #208.

"This parade, and the ceremony at Memorial Park, mean so much to our family and it's such an honor to be able to sponsor an entry honoring our local heroes and our country. With every passing year, it becomes even more inspirational for us as more and more community service organizations and residents participate to support our Veterans and all those currently serving. We look forward to this day all year long and, as always, we're hoping and praying for sunshine. The feeling you get along the parade route is truly indescribable. Celebrating Arlington Heights long history of answering the call to service is an incredible honor for us. Our family's history in Arlington Heights offers us an enormous sense of pride" stated Jackie Glueckert, adding, "We look forward to seeing everyone!"
