Join Elburn Memorial Day ceremony May 29

The Elburn American Legion Post 630, in cooperation with Blackberry Township and the City of Elburn, will hold a Memorial Day ceremony to honor the nation's fallen at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, at Blackberry Township Cemetery, Keslinger Road and Route 47. The featured speaker will be Chief Warrant Officer 4 Ty Simmons, a combat veteran of Vietnam and Iraq. While in Vietnam, he served as a Huey helicopter pilot with the 189th Assault Helicopter Company known as the Ghost Riders in Pleiku, Vietnam. Simmons also had a long career with the National Guard and the Illinois State Police which was interrupted by a return to active duty in order to serve as a Chinook helicopter pilot and operations officer of Company F, 106th aviation in Balad, Iraq.

The American Legion Post 630 Chaplain Jim Elgar will open the program with prayer, Elburn Village President Jeff Walter will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and Carolyn Jansons with sing the national anthem. Tami Osborne and Mary Coffey of the American Legion Auxiliary will read the poems "In Flanders Field" and "We Shall Keep the Faith." Karen Howard will read the names of veterans buried at the cemetery. The program will include the placing of wreaths and the playing of Taps.

The community is most welcome. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Post 630 hall, 112 N. Main in Elburn.
