Naperville Battle of the Bands lineup announced

Residents are invited to cheer on top high school student rock bands as they compete in the Naperville Park District Youth Ambassadors' 14th annual Battle of the Bands.

The event is free and will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, at the Community Concert Center in Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave., Naperville.

Six bands from four area high schools will compete as finalists based on their applications and the quality of their demo recordings that they submitted to the park district. Performances will be followed by the awarding of the top honors.

The order of performance will be as follows:

5 p.m.: Guru, Naperville North and Naperville Central high schools

5:25 p.m.: Ahead of Ourselves, Neuqua Valley High School

5:50 p.m.: Screaming Skies, Naperville North High School

6:15 p.m.: Picket Fence, Metea Valley High School

6:40 p.m.: Second Grade, Neuqua Valley High School

7:05 p.m.: Suburban Anarchy, Naperville Central High School

The first-place winner will perform at Ribfest at a time to be determined and will advance to the Illinois Park District Association's Regional Battle of the Bands, with a chance to perform at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

The second- and third-place finishers will play at the Naperville Park District's Rollin' on the River series on the Riverwalk Friday, July 21.

Additionally, the second-place winner will play at the Frontier Kite Fly Festival, presented by Naperville Moms Network Sunday, June 4.

The Youth Ambassadors is a group of high school students that works with the park district to plan communitywide special events for teens each year.
