Local artist has solo show at Elmhurst Art Museum

Chicago-area artist Randal Stringer will display his paintings done in a highly-rendered digital style in an exhibit titled by "Pause" at the Elmhurst Art Museum.

The solo show opens Sunday, May 14, and runs through June 23 at the museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave.

The opening reception in the gallery from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 19, is free, and the public is invited.

Stringer has developed a style through which he explores themes that reflect a variety of subject matter that deals with imaginative content.

"I continuously reinvent the process of mixing traditional and digital media, creating unique methods of expression and exploring the ways it filters my ideas," he says.

This juxtaposition of new and old ideas results in the end expression of his work, simple yet complex modern fine art with infinite interpretation and possibilities that challenge convention.

Besides finding joy in mixing the opposite approaches for a unique, creative expression of traditional and digital culture, he also has been drawn to the influence of urban style art, he says.

Stringer works as a commercial designer and artist for clients in advertising, design and publication. His paintings have been shown in galleries locally, nationally and around the world.

He lives in Glen Ellyn and more information on his art can be obtained from his website, www.randalstringer.com.

The exhibition can be viewed during regular museum hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

Admission on the first Friday of each month is free. At other times, admission is $8 for adults; $7 for seniors and EAM and guild members; and free for students and children younger than 1.
