123-year-old Geneva church changes its name

April 30 was a historic day for former First Baptist Church of Geneva. The church officially changed its name to Chapelstreet Church.

"Even though we have a new name, our mission and purpose really haven't changed. We remain committed to being a church where everyone can experience grace, grow in faith, and make an impact right where they are," said the Rev. Jeff Frazier, senior pastor.

The name change comes as the church looks forward to launching a third campus in the fall located at 1S455 Mill Creek Drive.

The church began in 1894 when a group of 10 Swedish immigrants decided to start the First Swedish Baptist Church of Geneva. Over the years, the buildings have changed and the name has changed, but the theological foundation, commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and faithfulness to equip believers to live out their faith remains unchanged.

The name change is not the only exciting activity happening at Chapelstreet Church.

Along with the launch of a third campus in Mill Creek, the Keslinger Campus worship center is being

remodeled and the nursery space is being expanded. The South Street Campus is increasing space to accommodate the growing Shepherd's Heart food pantry ministry.

Contemporary worship is offered at 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. Sundays at the Keslinger Campus, 3435 Keslinger Road in Geneva. At the South Street Campus, 2300 South St. in Geneva, there is a casual service at 5 p.m. Saturdays and traditional and Word & Table services at 9:15 and 10:45 a.m.
